Built a simple, maintainable website for a family friend, modernising a 15+ year-old site that lacked HTTPS while keeping the publishing flow simple.

Project notes

  • Kept the stack deliberately lightweight - plain HTML, CSS, and a sprinkle of JavaScript - so non-technical maintainers can edit content.
  • Integrated Google’s Programmable Search Engine and added cross-tab keyword highlighting to make journal entries searchable.
  • Set up an automated deployment pipeline to streamline journal updates and reduce maintenance overhead of manual file uploads.
  • Provided training in VS Code and GitHub for the journal maintainers.
  • Fixed very outdated sitemaps and used Google Search Console to index site content better, to power the search functionality of the site.
  • Contributed enhancements to their newly rebuilt main site, such as a scrolling header banner.
